EBB

Espoo Big Band (EBB) is one of Finland’s most prominent big jazz orchestras and it’s especially known for performing new Finnish big band music. Previously EBB has toured in Asia, Australia and Brazil, performed at several great festivals such as Detroit, Montreaux and Paris and released ten albums.

EBB hosts annually one of Finland’s biggest jazz festivals, April Jazz where it has accompanied jazz masters like Freddie Hubbard, Ray Charles, McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, Billy Cobham, Trilok Gurtu, Diane Schuur, Patti Austin, Carla Bley and Maria Schneider.

Originally established by Martti Lappalainen († 2011) in 1980, it has been conducted since 2012 by Marzi Nyman. EBB is now going through a new active period. In 2016, EBB has been releasing an album full of original music from Finnish rock fusion band Husband. The music of Varre Vartiainen and Jarmo Saari has been arranged for EBB and Husband by Saari, Lenni-Kalle Taipale and Marzi Nyman.

Husband Trio was founded in 2000 by Varre Vartiainen, with bassist Harri Rantanen and drummer Anssi Nykänen. They quickly became a very successful grooveband in Finland. Husband fused jazz and rock music elements and performed both at jazzclubs and rockarenas. Later also guitarist Marzi Nyman, who had featured on Husband's gigs, joined the group.
